Ever thought about taking your family kayaking on the Neuse River? It’s such a fun way to spend time together and enjoy nature. Plus, it’s great for both your body and mind – for you AND the family.

Where’s the Neuse River?

In our area, the Neuse River winds through Wake and Johnston County and by our location in Clayton NC. Overall, the Neuse stretches about 275 miles, starting in the Piedmont region and ending at Pamlico Sound. This river has been important for centuries, first for Native Americans and settlers, and now for people who love outdoor activities like fishing, boating, and kayaking. The lush forests and wildlife make it a peaceful escape for everyone.

Benefits of Kayaking on the Neuse River

Kayaking here isn’t just fun; it’s good for you too! It’s a great workout that gets your arms, shoulders, and back moving. Plus, paddling is excellent for your heart and helps burn calories. But it’s not just about the physical benefits. Being on the water surrounded by nature can really help you relax and reduce stress. The steady rhythm of paddling can even be meditative, helping clear your mind. The stretch of river that Neuse River Adventures operates in is generally fairly calm and gentle – suitable for all members of the family.

Family Bonding and Fun

Make some memories! What did you do LAST weekend? Sit around and watch TV? Maybe go out to eat? Yard work? There are a lot of things that families do, but how many of them are really different and memorable? Make some memories THIS weekend! Kayaking is a wonderful way for families to bond. It’s a chance to unplug from daily distractions and spend quality time together. Whether you’re gliding through calm waters or tackling some rapids, you’ll create memories that last. The shared experience of navigating the river and discovering hidden spots brings everyone closer.

Getting Ready for a Kayak Trip

Before you head out, make sure you have the right gear and know the safety tips. Your “kayak master”, Johnny House, will give you guidance to make your kayak (or canoe) trip safe and fun. Neuse Adventures provides the proper equipment as part of your Neuse kayaking rental package. You are always welcome to bring your own gear if you have it, otherwise, we will provide suitable life jackets, sturdy paddles, and of course, great kayaks (or canoes if you’re so inclined.) When you do show up for your day on the river, PLEASE dress appropriately. You’re going to be on your own for at least a couple hours and you don’t want to be bundled up in our summer heat – and you surely don’t want to be wearing too little on an early spring or fall float.

Remember to bring sunscreen, water, and a camera or mobile phone (WITH CAMERA) to capture those memories. If you have a small first aid kit, it’s never a bad idea to toss it in a little trip bag or backpack with everything else just in case. DO plan ahead. You will be on the water. While we hope you don’t get dunked, whatever you DO bring MAY end up in the drink with you if you do go down. Pack things in waterproof bags such as Ziploc®-type bags or similar. You aren’t out here for days, so you don’t need to bring THAT much, but what you do bring? Keep it dry! Planning ahead ensures you have a fun and worry-free adventure.

Tips for a Great Kayaking Experience

To make the most of your trip, follow some basic etiquette. Keep noise levels reasonable to respect the tranquility and wildlife. Yield to other boats and be courteous on the water. By doing so, you help preserve the river’s natural beauty for everyone to enjoy.

Exploring the Neuse River by Kayak

Kayaking on the Neuse River lets you soak in the beautiful scenery and enjoy the outdoors with your family. Our route will give you great views of unspoiled areas down the river. Hawks – and even eagles occasionally – flying and turtles sunbathing, and deer occasionally walking near the banks. You never know exactly what you might see in this part of Johnston county. It’s truly a different world from running up and down Hwy 70 when you get out here with the family and the quiet of nature around you. Sure you will hear the modern world in certain areas as you float down the river, but this should be a welcome opportunity to just “chill” a little bit for the whole family or group.

Kayaking on the Neuse River is not just an adventure; it’s a way to connect with nature and each other. So, why not give it a try and make those memories THIS weekend? Give Neuse Adventures a call or quick email to setup YOUR next Neuse adventure!
